This is The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. I found some fabric which reminded me of the caterpillar eggs which are depicted at the start and end of the book, and I made the caterpillar very high relief by stuffing each segment of needlelace. I couldn't exactly recreate the marbling of the original, so instead I used different shades of green, and different stitch directions, to create variety between the different segments. The face is flatter but still raised, most of it made separately and then attached to the white background.
